Hello everyone! I'm Kendra and I'm a native Wyoming. The Wyoming I'm planning on playing is narcissistic and more apathetic then evil. This is my first time rping so I'm hoping I will do him and this group justice. I'm also going to apologize now if I ask too many questions! (Any tips will be appreciated)
I can be contacted on tumblr its-like-an-aqua or on plurk

Tutorial Time!
Check out already posted things to see examples of how things work. I'll make a tag for your character in a moment and teach you how to tag that a bit later. When you have the post format copied you want to hit the post button I have circled in this picture.
Paste the form into the text area. If you're doing the log post (which is the one that needs the form), go to the subject line and title it "Log: " and whatever title you want. My suggestion for your first post would be something related to him being in town.
For a first post it can be helpful if you make what is called an 'Open' log post. This would be done by writing [Open] after the name of the log, and/or in the who line putting your character [which for future reference should be referred to as either Agent Wyoming (Native) or Wyoming (Native)] and then putting the word Open. That lets people know that anyone who wants to can come poke Wyoming. Because of this you should be mindful that he should be somewhere that other people can access him. Most of the For Hire mercenaries have rooms in their team base, in addition to any external safe houses they own. This is not an area that most characters can get to. The suggestion I have for him to meet people is to put him out in public. A bar (though that won't give you everyone because we have some underage characters), or out shopping somewhere, or just lounging in a park. You can even give him multiple places to be over the course of a day so people can poke him at different places as suit them.
So, an example of a first post might be like this:
Who: [Your character, any character that has agreed to be involved in a closed log, etc] Agent Wyoming (Native), Open
What: [Here you want some rough description of what is/will happen in the post.] Wyoming back in town and readjusting to Gulch
Where: Downtown Gulch [OR] Tea Shop (Morning), Gun store (afternoon), Diner (Evening) [OR] FH Base [OR] whatever else
When: [Here you want the date, which can be backdated to a previous day or forward dated. But typically things start on the day that it currently is. Typically we use time of day but you can skip that.] 2/26
Warnings: [Any imagined warnings in here. Wyoming graphically killing people? R. Adult content, NSFW. You can tag things like 'cursing' or 'being an asshole' or whatever you feel is appropriate.]
cut text="[Here you want to put a brief comment that describes things starting, like: Out About Town]">And in this space between the cut html, you type the body of your post. We use third person present tense, but beyond that how you format it is however you want. Just make sure that someone can easily tell action apart from speech. Pretty sure this won't show up well visibly because cuts really only work in the initial post. So that works here as a great visual example.
/cut>
Now this is getting long, so I'll show you how to tag things and track posts in the next response.
Tutorial Time! Part Two - Tagging and Tracking
When you make a post to start a log or a network interaction, you need to tag your character in it. This is easiest to do when you're using a computer rather than a phone, so if you don't get it done every time, that's okay. We mods will police the threads and add tags sometimes. This helps people look for logs they've been involved in in the past.
As you might notice at the bottom of the new post thing, there is a section called tagging. This is a lot like tagging on Tumblr but we have autocomplete!
If you start typing in 'agent' in the tag, it's going to offer an autocomplete of the first tag we have with that in alphabetical order. The tag you are looking for is 'agent wyoming (native)' and typically if you type in 'agent wy' and then click the area again, it will autocomplete with that. Otherwise just type in the whole thing. The process works a little different when you're joining someone else's post. There you're looking for another button.
This is the add a tag button. You can find it when you get into a post itself, or on the comm front pages. It just looks like a little luggage tag with a pencil. If you hit that button you get a page that lists all possible tags. Well, not quite. Any tag that we have entered in but not used before won't show up. So you'll have to have a post where you or someone else manually enters the 'agent wyoming (native)' tag before you can use this option. But when you join other posts you can hit that button, go through the drop down list, and click your character's name. Then just hit save changes and you've added your tag!
So you know, the other buttons in that picture above are useful too. The first one is 'edit post'. You can only access that on things on top level entries you made yourself. Next to that is 'Add Memory'. That button lets you save things into your DW memories to find later if you really like them. I don't use that much but it's up to you. Next to that is 'Share Entry'. This provides a link you can put other places to show off to other people through e-mail. Not really useful for us. The last one, the little bell, is our next topic. Tracking Posts.
When you make a post yourself, (as you might have noticed with this introduction post), you'll get a message about someone replying to you. When you make a post you get a message in both your DW inbox and your e-mail EVERY time someone responds to that post, even if it's not to you. You'll also receive a message in your inbox and e-mail if someone replies to you directly if it isn't your post. For example, you got an e-mail and inbox message when the mods replied to your application. That was a mod post, but you were informed because it was a reply to you.
Unfortunately this isn't always enough. Sometimes you want to follow someone else's conversation or log post, or all the events in a log post you didn't start. That's what the bell button is for. You almost ABSOLUTELY want to track the RP comm itself. If you look at the picture above where I showed you how to post into the comm (in the first tutorial), there is that bell button under the profile picture for the comm. If you hit that button you should check the SECOND box on the next page. I would also suggest checking the 'email' box that will appear when you check that second box. This way you'll always know when someone starts a new log.
You can also do this for individual threads as I noted before. BUT there is a limit. You can only track a limited number of things at a single time. You can untrack things from the original button on the original post. Or you can manage a lot at once and see how many things you have tracked with another button.
Start by going to your inbox. Here is a picture of where to look on the comm page or in a thread.
This will take you to your inbox. Here you'll find a button that says manage settings.
The page you are taken to is your notification page! It tracks how many you have. You can have up to 25. I would recommend immediately getting rid of the top one (Dreamwidth Studios makes a new announcement), the circle one isn't of use for us in this RP group (People add me to their Circle) and pretty much anything in the peoples and communities section. Below that is the Notification Tracking section. This is for threads and communities you track. Every now and then you should come into this area to clear out old tracks you have so you have room for more. If you need any help with that in the future, just poke me.
Some people track threads of other characters they like, or interactions they might find fun. ALWAYS track a post where you're in an interaction with two or more people in a thread at the same time. For instance if you're hanging out with Florida and Maine you might have a post order that is Wyoming -> Florida -> Maine -> Wyoming. If you didn't create the original log you'll only know when Florida responds, and not when Maine does. As your response would come AFTER Maine's and not Florida's, you need to know when you get a message from Maine. If you need more help with that, again, just ask. Some people also track the IC contacts of other characters. This takes up a LOT of space, and is not recommended if you don't have another, side account just for that (I just my DW user Churbooseanon to track IC things so I can know when people are talking to each other).
I also suggest talking to people on Plurk and checking out the taken thread on the Mod community. Add the current players to your plurk and don't be afraid to ask us there how to tag people you're friends with so you can let them know that you want to play something with them, or you have any other message at all. Also if you're following someone and they use a little picture emote at the start that is purple and says merc, that means it involves our RP group, and you're probably welcome to chip in and talk to them.
We're all REALLY friendly people and don't be afraid to talk to us on Plurk to get to know us ^-^ We try to be as helpful as we can!
